The John Deere S140 Riding Lawn Tractor is designed for residential lawn maintenance with a combination of a wide cutting deck, hydrostatic transmission, and V-twin engine performance. It is powered by a 22 HP, 724cc air-cooled V-twin gasoline engine with cast-iron cylinder liners for durability and smooth operation.

The S140 features a 48-inch Edge™ mower deck made from 12-gauge steel. The deck includes an electric PTO clutch, four deck wheels, and a wash port for easier cleaning after mowing. Its spring-assisted deck lift helps make cutting-height adjustments more convenient.

An automatic hydrostatic transmission with side-by-side foot pedals allows the operator to control speed and direction without manually shifting gears. The tractor reaches forward speeds of up to approximately 5.5 mph and has an 18-inch turning radius for maneuvering around landscaping and other obstacles.

The S140 is built on a full-length welded steel frame with a cast-iron front axle. It also includes a front bumper, cup holder, storage compartment, hour meter, and a 15-inch open-back operator seat.
